What road salt does to automotive paint
Road salt (and liquid brine) is designed to melt ice. On a vehicle it also:

- Combines with sand and grit that micro-scratch clear coat in automatic washes
- Sits for days between washes when temperatures are low and owners avoid outdoor rinses
- Makes bonded contamination harder to remove the longer it stays
None of that means every winter destroys a car. It means unprotected paint ages faster: duller finish, more swirl marks from aggressive winter washes, and more time spent decontaminating in spring.
A ceramic coating will not make salt “bounce off” forever. What it does is create a harder, more chemical-resistant, hydrophobic surface so salt water beads and rinses more easily — and so decontamination is less aggressive when you do wash.
Ceramic coating vs. wax vs. “spray ceramic” for NH winters
Traditional wax sits on top of paint. It can look rich and smell great. It is also soft and short-lived under brine and frequent washes.

- Avoid abrasive tunnel brushes on freshly coated (or any) paint when a hand wash is available.
